Kailey has been dancing with KSID for five years now, joining KSID before Miss Kathleen was even a part of the school! She goes way back. This Fall Kailey will be entering the 5th grade and at KSID she will become one of the youngest dancers to be selected for our new Jr. Company. But first Kailey & 25 other fabulous Kelly Irish Dancers are heading down to Philadelphia, PA for the World Irish Dance Associations premiere US Open National Championships, taking place on July 12th. This is Kailey’s first National event and she is going for the gold! Kailey has been preparing her reels, slip jigs, single jigs, light jigs, treble jigs, hornpipes & traditional set dance for her solo rounds of the competition. That’s 7 solos! She also has been training weekly with her ceili teammates. Kailey and seven other Kelly Irish Dancers will be performing as a team dancing the High Cauled Cap. With a name like Kailey, we are confident she will be a lucky addition to our ceili team.
The preparation for feis-es and performances sometimes seems to never end, but Kailey doesn’t mind! Kailey LOVES Irish Dance. She lives Irish Dance and tells us she practices a minimum of six hours a week! And we certainly believe her.
Kailey is quickly becoming a fabulous Irish dancer and a recognizable one for her amazing height in her lifts & jumps in her soft shoe dancing and her ability to learn lots of choreography. For our June recital, Kailey was in a record number of 7 dances. For our 2013-2014 season Kailey opted to take part in three troupe classes, making her costume and shoe changes quite numerous backstage, but she handled it with ease, showing us she has what it takes to one day be a “big kid” Company dancer.
It doesn’t surprise us when asked who inspires her the most. When she isn’t being ever so kind and naming Miss Kathleen or myself, she names two of our own Kelly Irish Dancers, our January spotlighted dancer Emily P and current Company dancer & 6th in the World Irish Dancer Claire J. She hopes to one day travel the globe with her dancing, like these two girls have been so fortunate to do AND to she wants to join Riverdance. Perhaps for their 30th anniversary tour. We have no doubt Kailey will dance her way around the world. And I personally couldn’t be happier to help Kailey and all our dancers achieve these dreams and more. Kailey is off to a good start on her worldwide dreams with her National Irish dance travel happening next week.
Did you know Kailey’s first love isn’t competition. It’s performing! (That’s our first love too).
She is looking forward to our 2nd annual production of Merry & Bright this December.
Kailey doesn’t compete often, but when she does, she more than prepares for it & makes the experience count!
Kailey’s first ever feis was in May of 2013 at the KSID Spring Feis.
Did you hear we will be hosting our Spring feis again!! May 24th, 2015, save the date.
At our 2013 feis, she placed first in all her dances, amazing!
Her favorite Irish dances are hornpipes & reels.
And her absolute favorite dance routine she’s been apart of, was our 2014 recital rendition of Riverdance’s Reel Around the Sun, or RATS as the Kelly dancers refer to it.
When she was younger, she liked to think KSID stood for the Kailey S Irish Dance!
We think she probably still feels that way.
When you see Kailey at the studio, wish her luck & safe travels! We are sure Kailey will one day be an “older girl” Kelly Irish Dancer that has an entire new group of ten year old girls will look up to. Thanks for begin a part of our team Kailey and good luck in Philadelphia!
